A Direct Line Blog

Such a Simple Idea

During a recent session I attended on the topic of board governance, the speaker made a comment that every board should consider using a board calendar. He suggested it is an efficient way to get dates planned for things like the executive’s annual performance review, elections, meetings, events, and more. Makes a lot of sense to do that, whether it is on the wall or an electronic calendar.

The real “ah ha” moment was when he noted that it can help someone who is trying to decide whether to put their name in the hat for a seat, or even to retain a board seat they already hold, how much time they may need to devote to the role. It’s easy to say it’s only an hour or two once a month, but is that realistic?

This September 2022 blog by the Savvy Director provides some additional reasons to use one. The benefits to the efficiency of having approval deadlines, details, and more laid out cannot be overstated. The blog even provides tips on how to get started.

My curious mind wants to know, does your board use a calendar? If so, what have you found most useful in the process? I am all ears!
