The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) offers many learning opportunities for credit union volunteers. Below are a few of their in-person schools. Other opportunities can be found on their website.
Director Financial Literacy is required for all credit union board members within six months of joining the board, and suggested periodically as a refresher. Tim Harrington of TEAM Resources provided the three sessions below and we encourage you to take advantage of the training individually, or as a board.
Effective Board Meeting Series NCUA produced a four-part series on the elements of an effective board meeting. The short video segments are available on their YouTube channel at no cost.
Learning Management System The online Learning Management System has a whole channel dedicated to Governance topics. All training is free and additional topics are being added regularly.
Supervisory Committee Training Series These short video segments were produced by NCUA to help supervisory committee members understand their important role better. The videos are short, free, and recommended for any new committee member, or as a refresher for the whole committee.
BSA for Supervisory Committee This one-hour session (August 2020) discusses the Bank Secrecy Act requirements and the committee’s role in overseeing pieces of it. It can be used to fulfill the annual training requirement, or just to better understand BSA program components.
Supervisory Committee Audit Basics webinar was held on Sept. 25, 2019 with Becky Frederick, auditor with the Minnesota Credit Union Network. The hour-long session overviews a basic work plan, as well as her tips on how to divide and conquer to make the committee more efficient.
