Little Book of Best Practices

I am always looking for good resources that I feel really “speak” to some of the issues credit union boards are facing. It is even more exiting when I find one and it’s FREE! Tim Harrington and his crew at TEAM Resources have a whole page of free downloads  which includes some commonly-requested forms and information.

The gem of the collection is the Little Book of Credit Union Board Best Practices (the first resource listed). The topics are varied, pertinent, and quick reads. Below are a few of my favorite quotes from three of the book’s chapters:

Empathy: “When your field of membership is more diverse, or changed, it is important for the board to understand them, to understand their needs in order to serve them best.”

Engagement: “Engaged board members are never just going through the motions, but are asking questions, pushing the boundaries, and never settling with the status quo.”

Board Succession/Recruitment: “Take the time to map out what skills, demographics, and backgrounds you have. Then list out what skills and diversity you’d like to have. Use this as a road map for each director to recruit a candidate to be vetted. ”

Take a moment and request the download link to this resource. You won’t have to spend a lot of time to review the 32 topics and find a few that are right for your board.
