People Helping People: Advocating for Our Members

When people think about how Billings FCU helps its members, they often think of loans, savings accounts, or financial guidance. But one of the most important ways we serve our members happens behind the scenes: advocacy.

Advocacy means ensuring our members’ voices are heard and protecting the products and services they rely on every day. This summer, Billings FCU hosted Montana’s Credit Unions’ Lawmaker Luncheon, bringing lawmakers and credit union leaders together to discuss issues affecting Montana families and businesses.

We also had a team member travel to Washington, D.C. with the Billings Chamber of Commerce to represent Montana’s credit unions on Capitol Hill and share why the credit union movement matters. That same team member works closely with local lawmakers through her service on the Billings Chamber Advisory Board, helping build meaningful relationships long before legislative issues arise. By engaging with elected officials and community leaders on a regular basis, Billings FCU helps ensure that when matters affecting credit unions and our members surface, there is already a foundation of trust, understanding, and collaboration in place.

Every conversation, relationship, and meeting is focused on one goal: standing up for our members and ensuring credit unions can continue serving communities for generations to come. That’s People Helping People in action.
