| In February 2012, Whitefish CU hand-selected four seniors and three juniors from Whitefish High School to serve on their inaugural Junior Board. The credit union hoped that giving the students an opportunity to be involved, would help students grasp the credit union difference and increase their knowledge of the financial industry.
The students also made quite a commitment. They conducted monthly meetings, wrote articles for Whitefish CU's newsletter, and implemented the community service project "Fit For the Future," an entire week of fitness events at Whitefish High School. The week featured a fitness facts section on the morning announcements (introduced by a rap on fitness written by the students) and talks on fitness and hygiene topics each day. It culminated in a track event sponsored by WCU, which underwrote the cost of sports bottles and dental care kits for each of the 230 students. The event was such a success it got local TV news coverage. Whitefish CU's first ever Junior Board wrapped up it's work at the end of the school year. The members all agreed the experience offered them a great way to learn about personal finance and business, while having some fun and making a difference in their community.
