Credit Unions Today

Credit Unions continue to make history in a number of ways, and these past two years — 2009 and 2010 — have been incredibly busy.
In 2009 we passed two milestones:
- The 100th Anniversary of the first credit union chartered in North America (you can follow it here on Facebook)
- CUNA's 75th Birthday, including a fall celebration at Estes Park and a restaging of the historic 1932 photo (above) click here for a larger view. (See if you can locate MCUN Network President Tracie Kenyon and League Chair Kathy Shea.) If you're interested in the speeches given at the 75th Aniversary celebration, you'll find videos here.
So far, 2010 has sheparded in at least two historic moments:
- Credit Unions have been more active in federal legislation then ever before. Calls to Action on the Interchange Language in the Financial Reform Bill generated over 500,000 congressional contacts from around the nation and Member Business Lending legislation is waiting in the wings.
- Bill Cheney replaced Dan Mica as CUNA's President/CEO, becoming the 13th person to hold the leadership position at CUNA. Here's a list of the others, along with their titles and the dates they served.
