Montana Credit Union Network

Volunteering for Duty

Credit unions are member-owned and governed by a board of volunteer directors who are elected democratically by (and from) the membership. Volunteers play a huge role in our industry and take on a lot of responsibility when they take a seat on their credit union's board of directors. Setting policies and the direction of a financial institution in this day and age is not a task to be taken lightly. We hope the information in this section of the website will help.

Here we'll try to address the basics, cover issues important to directors, and recognize their achievements. In the future, we also plan to feature interviews with individual board members and staff they work with.

  • The Director's Job — Information about what, exactly, being a credit union director entails. Your role, your responsibilities, the requirements
  • Helpful Resources — Links to information or organizations that can help you do your job
  • Volunteer Recognition — Awards, honors, accomplishments
  • On the Board — Personal experiences and ideas from the people sitting around the table
