Montana Credit Union Network

Reciprocal Share Draft/Check Cashing Program

Every once in awhile a credit union member is traveling and needs to cash a share draft or check. It would be convenient for them to cash it at a local credit union. Even though NCUA regulations prohibit credit unions from cashing drafts/checks for non-members, they do allow credit unions to enter into written correspondent agreements with other credit unions in order to provide specified services to each others members.

The Network coordinates a Reciprocal Share Draft Cashing Program that fulfills NCUA's requirements. The program costs credit unions nothing, but its success depends entirely on the level of participation. Please consider participating in this worthwhile program so your members will be able to cash share drafts/checks at any affiliated credit union in the state--another convenience that your members will appreciate. To enroll in the program, read the program guidelines, have your board of directors approve this resolution, and fax it back to the Network at 406-442-9085. Contact Donya Parrish or Tracy Thornburg at the Network with any questions.

A member of any participating credit union may cash a share draft/check at any other participating credit union, subject to approval and guidelines. One is organized by town and one is organized by credit union.
