Are you interested in volunteering at a VITA site in your community, or do you know someone who might be interested in volunteering? The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program assists with only basic tax returns for individuals making under $49,000 during the 2009 tax year. Computer software is used by volunteers to assist with completing the tax return and is kept on a secure server.
Montana Credit Unions for Community Development (MCUCD) continues to support Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites at credit unions around the state and partners with several other organizations that offer free tax services in many of Montana’s large and small communities.
Extensive volunteer support is provided by MCUCD before, during, and after tax season. MCUCD has supported VITA sites since 2006 and has experience working with volunteers and taxes state-wide. MCUCD provides comprehensive training to all volunteers and is always available for questions over the phone while the volunteer is working on a tax return.
We also handle most of the technical work including transmitting tax returns to the IRS and handling customer questions after the tax return is completed. Last year MCUCD VITA volunteers prepared 1,800 tax returns at sites across the state. For more information on MCUCD, visit www.MontanaCreditUnions.coop.
So, if you or someone you know is interested in volunteering at a VITA site for this coming tax season, please contact Abby Wolf 1-800-745-5546 ext 141 .
