Carin McClain recently returned to the staff at Montana Credit Unions for Community Development, the charitable arm of the Montana Credit Union Network, as the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program manager. In her role, McClain oversees 28 VITA sites and roughly 60 volunteers offering free tax help and Earned Income Tax Credit awareness to low-income Montana residents. She returns to the organization after once working there as an AmeriCorps VISTA member where she said she “soaked up the credit union goodness” and vowed to someday return.
“It’s an organization that’s mission-based with exceptional people,” she said.
McClain has been working with credit unions on community-based free tax preparation and asset development since 2008. Her job will be to serve as the liaison between Montana’s credit unions and MCUCD ensuring that volunteers have all the tools they need and the free-tax program runs smoothly.
