Tax Season ends with VITA success

Tax season ended a month ago, and we have our final numbers. The Montana VITA Partnership (MVP) completed over 5,515 tax returns this year -- which is 515 more tax returns than in 2012. Even better, we exceeded our goal of 5,400, which was critical for us to continue the second year of our multi-year grant from the IRS. We are especially proud of these numbers, since we had a late start this tax season.

This year there were 43 tax sites in the Montana VITA Partnership. 5,515 Federal and State returns were prepared with $5,596,861 in Federal tax refunds going back to Montanans. $2,069,271 was returned in Earned Income Credit. Many students took advantage of education credits this year and got back $122,376 to help reimburse college expenses.

Imagine what we could have done with the two extra weeks! Kudos to the MVP, our VITA sites, site coordinators, and the amazing volunteers.
